Diocesan Synod

Community: Young people have the human and spiritual need to live in a community.  Whilst giving due importance to the individuality and uniqueness of every person, the Church has to build upon this need and thus offer young people environments and spaces where they can feel welcomed.  In such environments young people can build significant relationships, develop the capacity to dialogue, develop their potential, discover themselves and others, pray together and participate together in the celebration of the sacraments amongst other things.  It is only against the background of a community of love that young people can grow as whole persons.  In this regard KDZ aims at encouraging the building of new groups/communities and also at bringing these communities together in particular diocesan events. (AŻ 24)

Proclamation: Jesus has come to proclaim the Good News to the poor, proclaim liberty to the captives and give sight to th blind set free the oppressed and announce that the time has come when the Lord will save his people (cf. Lk 4, 18-19). The Church is called to continue Jesus’ mission till the end of time and thus has the task of spreading the Good News to the ends of the earth.  In this mission, the Church has to understand that there’s the need of not only working among young people but also with them.  The Church can only to this by listening to them, so as to be able to understand their culture, feel their needs, and also by recognizing young people as full responsible members of herself who can not only receive but also give and change the Church.  KDZ aims at seeing that evangelization is indeed taking place amongst the young people in our diocese, providing the necessary tools, including a Resource Centre, publications such as Mill-KDZ - Iktus - Artikli fil-"Flimkien" and Formation Courses, for young people to be themselves evangelizers. (AŻ 32)

Liturgy: Liturgy is the expression and the apex of the life of the Church gathered together.  It is a sign of the presence of God in the community and an expression of the life lived by the community.  All this is experienced in a powerful way in the celebration of the Eucharist.  Young people seek to live and have experiences together in groups and the liturgy specifically offers such a space: a community that is celebrating and going through an experience together (Mass Significance).  It is thus important that all that happens in the liturgy builds and brings together this community and that there starts to exist a solid relationship between the celebration of the Eucharist and the other activities held in the group.  KDZ aims as seeing that the liturgy (Information)  that is celebrated in the diocese is indeed one that is communitarian and celebrative.  It also helps liturgy groups (Mass Celebrations) and music ministry teams in providing a more welcoming environment where young people can indeed make a rich experience of the liturgy. (AŻ 45, 46)

Service: Since we are disciples of the God of life, who became a man in order to give his life for all and always showed love and mercy with those in need, we also have the responsibility of being a presence of love in a particular way among those who are weak or in need.  It is thus essential that our pastoral work is differentiated and flexible, addressed to all young people – without excluding anyone.  In the same way, it is also important that young people encounter those who are weak and in need with the same spirit of Christ, in a way that they not only see Christ in their neighbour but also in a way that those who receive their help experience the love of Christ.  Against this background, KDZ seeks to encourage voluntary work among young people and that they are the young people themselves who create and experience it.  KDZ also has the responsibility of being the voice of those young people who are weak or are at the outskirts of society.  It should make sure that pastoral work done in the diocese also reaches these young people and should not this be the case, it has to actively work to provide groups/institutions to help these youth, thus promoting Volunteer Information Service (VIS).
